Winches for vehicle

Usually mounted at the front or rear of a vehicle (though it can also be attached to a fixed point), a vehicle winch is a device designed to pull or move heavy loads: to tow another vehicle if it becomes stuck or breaks down, or to clear natural obstacles from the road. It is particularly useful, for example, for 4x4 drivers, rescue professionals such as those in forestry or agriculture, as well as extreme sports enthusiasts, enabling them to extricate themselves from difficult situations without external assistance.

The vehicle winch operates using a cable (made of steel, for strength, or synthetic, which is lighter and easier to handle) wound around a drum. This cable is driven by a motor (electric or hydraulic) which winds it up or lets it out. When activated, the winch exerts a pulling force on the load, enabling the vehicle or the attached load to be moved.

The vehicle winches featured in our catalogue are designed exclusively for pulling and towing operations: for any manoeuvres on an incline, the force required must therefore be increased. Depending on the range, they are equipped with:

  • an electric motor (12 or 24 V): Powered by the vehicle’s battery, electric vehicle winches are easy to use and suitable for most applications.
  • a hydraulic motor: More powerful, hydraulic vehicle winches use the vehicle’s hydraulic system and are ideal for very heavy loads.

In short, a vehicle winch is an essential accessory for drivers facing difficult terrain or breakdown situations. The choice between the different ranges of vehicle winches (electric or hydraulic) depends on the intended use and the vehicle (quad bikes, small, medium and large 4x4s, recovery vehicles, etc.). Regular maintenance and use in accordance with safety regulations will maximise its efficiency and service life.
